The Institute of Sports Medicine is committed to enhancing the knowledge and skills of sports professionals across Sri Lanka. Our education programs aim to build safer sporting environments through evidence-based training and accessible learning.

Key initiatives include:

Basic Sports First Aid Training for Coaches – Equipping coaches with essential skills to manage injuries on the field and ensure athlete safety.

  1. Basic Sports First Aid Training for Coaches – Ensuring Athlete Safety
    The Institute of Sports Medicine, Sri Lanka, is committed to enhancing athlete safety by equipping sports coaches with essential first aid knowledge. As part of this national initiative, we are promoting standardized training programs in Basic Sports Emergency Care (BSEC) to prepare coaches as effective first responders in sports settings.
    This ongoing program focuses on practical skills such as CPR, injury management, handling medical emergencies, and concussion awareness. Our goal is to ensure that by 2030, all sports coaches in Sri Lanka are certified in basic sports first aid.
    Interested organizations or individuals can contact the Institute of Sports Medicine to request training sessions or learn more about becoming an accredited provider.
  2. Train-the-Trainer Program for Sports Coaches
    The Institute of Sports Medicine is conducting a nationwide Train-the-Trainer program aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of national and school-level sports coaches. This initiative focuses on key areas such as injury prevention, recovery strategies, and sports nutrition, with the goal of improving athlete safety and performance. Delivered by a dedicated team of medical professionals, the two-day program includes lectures and practical sessions tailored specifically for coaches. With successful implementations across multiple provinces, the program continues to play a vital role in strengthening the foundation of sports medicine and performance support across Sri Lanka.
